The JL Industries LP-5 arrives preassembled, mounting easily to the top 2 rungs ( square or round ) of a roof access hatch ladder using 2 U-shaped bolts. From Industrial Hardware and Specialties is the JL Industries Safety Post Ladder Mount LP-5 Hot Dipped Galvanized. This extendable safety post provides a convenient and safe method of climbing off and onto fixed access ladders.The LP-5 was designed for safety and ease of use. When the climber reaches the top of the ladder they simply extend the safety post. The spring coil allows the user to lift the post with just one hand, enabling the climber to maintain 3 points of contact with the ladder. At the top of the roof hatch the user may step on or off the ladder in a safe standing position while holding onto the post. A latch maintains the post at variable heights and is easily released for retracting the pole. The LP-5 includes a pull up loop at the upper end of the post to facilitate raising (not for use with safety harness). The post is square shaped measuring 60" in total length and 4" wide. The LP-5 meets OSHA 1910.23 (d)(7) grab bars extending 42" above the access level or landing platforms served by the ladder when installed as recommended.
